William Russell Wittman Jr.

Joining his wife, Betty Heiss Wittman, William Russell Wittman, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2023 at 79 years old. He is survived by his two brothers, Richard Wittman and Eric Medlin; three children: Jerry Wittman, Kristina Wittman and Emily Pemberton; six grandchildren: Troy Wittman, Miles Pemberton, Anthony DeCerbo, Tommy DeCerbo, Isaac Pemberton and Mia DeCerbo; and one great-grandchild, Troy Wittman, Jr. Russell could be characterized for his diligent work ethic, commitment to character, sacrifice for family and his humor, but most notably, he will be remembered by his love for his family and pets. In jest, he may have loved them equally. Love really is an action word and his was demonstrated by everything he did. Not only did Russell serve his family well, but he served our country as a Medic in the Army, coming back as a wounded warrior. With all of the health issues he faced in this life, he always maintained his sense of humor, a positive outlook and a heart to serve others. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, Russell became even more engaged with the DAV. One of the ways he served with this group was by meeting soldiers at the Veteran’s Hospital as they came back from deployment to help them get connected with their benefits. He knew first-hand how difficult this could be, especially when experiencing his own physical and mental challenges after returning home from Vietnam. Russell was a member of Hillendale Baptist Church, serving as a greeter. Though it wasn’t always easy to make it to church because of his health conditions, he made it a priority and served as an inspiration to those who knew him. William Russell Wittman, Jr. touched many lives and will be greatly missed, but we will rejoice knowing that he rests in the arms of Jesus. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. Repass will be held at: VFW Post 1503 Dale City 14631 Minnieville Rd, Dale City, VA 22193 Thursday, July 13 / 2:30PM- 4:00PM
