Katie Lane

On February 6, 2023, Katie Lee Lane was called home to eternal peace. Katie was born on November 11, 1940 in Mississippi. She was the second born child to Joseph Lane, Sr. and Anne Hall, who preceded her in death. Katie had eight siblings. Seven of the eight preceded her in death; Ruby Gary, Abe Holden, Loretta Johnson, Lorean Lee, Joseph Lane Jr., Myrtle Johnson, and Dolly Harrington. She leaves to mourn her sister Rosa Biscoe-Watson; her five children; Lawrence Wade (Jennifer), Lynette Pinkney (Leon), Rosalind Gaubatz, Denise Harris (Rodney), Dennis Wade, her sixteen grandchildren; Lawence Wade, Jr., Joseph Rawlings, Sabrina Rawlings, Sara Mack, Rachel Knots, David Rawlings, Katie Gaubatz, Warren Gaubatz, Rodney Wade, Roniece Singh, Erica Leake, Dennis Pierre, Ashley Wade, Alicia Wade, DeShaun Wade who preceded her in death, and Onijie Wade; thirty-three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Katie received her education in Mississippi. She got her first job working as a seamstress and she was so good at it. She started working from the townhome where she resided in Channel Square, South West Washington, D.C. She made draperies for just about all of the residents in the community. As time went on, she opened up her own business and it was called Katie Decorator's. Katie trained all five of her children, some of her grandchildren, her niece Sharon Watson and so many others. Her daughter Lynette worked for her until she retired and eventually followed Katie's footsteps and opened up her own business called Draperies by Lynette. Katie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and was later under the teachings of Pastor Bates of First Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Katie loved to be on the go. Whenever there was an outing to attend, she was always up and ready to go. Her daughter Denise was her on the go partner. Most of the time, when you saw Katie, you saw Denise. Her son Dennis always made sure Katie and Denise would enjoy, and if that meant providing financially, he did that for sure. Katie was loved by many. Everyone she came in contact with would always say how sweet, loving and caring she was. Katie had such a giving spirit. She was known for helping others in some type of capacity; whether it was helping someone to grow professionally or aiding a family member or friend, she was always available to assist. Her loving spirit will always be present with us. The family will receive visitors Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10-11AM with a service from 11AM-1PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192.
