Joan Marie Devaney Finn

Joan Marie Devaney Finn, 89, passed away Saturday evening, September 19, 2020, surrounded by family in Woodbridge, Virginia. Joan, an identical twin, was born on June 25, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, minutes after her sister, Jeanne. Joan was raised in Wilkes-Barre and graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1949. She married Thomas Girard Finn on May 26, 1951, raising eight children together. Her passion was her family and she was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She lived by God’s word as her strong love and kindness was witnessed by all who knew or met her. A lifelong volunteer for many church activities such as the Altar & Rosary Society at Holy Savior Catholic Parish in Wilkes-Barre as well as The Legion of Mary and The Silver Foxes at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish in Woodbridge, Virginia, Joan was dedicated to her church and community. A fun competitor, Joan never passed up the opportunity for a friendly game of pinochle, bridge or scrabble. Times spent with family at the beach in Wildwood, NJ or Virginia Beach, VA were especially fun and memorable with her, even when it rained the entire time. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Finn and son Hugh as well as her brother Tom Devaney, Sisters Jeanne Devaney, RSM, and Mary Cavanaugh. She is survived by her sisters Eileen Devaney and Anne Devaney, RSM of Wilkes-Barre, seven of her eight children, Thomas A. Finn (Tamera) of Woodbridge VA; Brian M. Finn (Janet) of Horsham, PA; Edward J. Finn (Lei) of Woodbridge, VA; Karen M. Finn (Cathy) of Silver Spring, MD; Joseph T. Finn (Laura) of Kennett Square; John J. Finn (Sonia) of Fredericksburg, VA; Eileen M. Finn of Towson, MD, and daughter-in-law Michele Finn of Louisville, KY. Joan was blessed with twenty-one beautiful grandchildren, and nine awesome great grandchildren, with one more on the way! Viewing is scheduled to occur at Joan’s parish, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, 12805 Valleywood Dr, Lake Ridge, VA 22192, from 11 AM until 12 NOON with funeral mass to commence at 12 NOON on Friday, October 2, 2020. Face masks will be required. Joan will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan’s name to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
