Dolores Wilson

Dolores Wilson lived a long and meaningful life defined by strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. In her young adult years, she was a proud military wife, traveling extensively while raising her four children, who were born in different states across the United States and even in Morocco, Africa. Through constant change and movement, she remained the steady foundation of her family—the glue that held everyone together. She went on to become a dedicated and accomplished professional, spending many years working in Jersey City, New Jersey, as a bookkeeper and accountant. She later retired from the Hudson County Clerk’s Office in her 70s. Throughout her career, she carried herself with strength, grace, and a deep sense of responsibility. A trailblazer in her field, she overcame racial barriers and helped open doors for future generations of Black professionals. In several roles, she was the first Black woman hired and faced immense pressure, as employers made it clear that her performance would influence opportunities for those who followed. She met that challenge with determination and excellence. She was deeply loved by her family and respected by her peers, leaving behind a legacy of strength, unity, and a quiet yet powerful impact. She was preceded in death by: Her beloved husband, W.J. Wilson; Her mother, Loretta Hadden; Her father, Alcides Bell; Her son, Michael Wilson; and Her great-grandson, Miles Wilson whom now gets to enjoy her hearty breakfast of grits and eggs or oatmeal, as she always loved to cook in the morning, her favorite meal of the day. She is survived by: Her children: Gregory Wilson, Janet Williams, and Donna Hancox; Daughter-in-law: Christine Wilson; Son-in-law: Jerome Williams; Her grandchildren: Gregory Wilson II, Steven Wilson, Jason Wilson, Demetria Wilson, Scott Wilson, Carlton Kinard II, Terance Hancox, Janelle Hancox, Amelle Hancox, and Desiree Hancox; Her great-grandchildren: Sarah Sosa, Jasmine Wilson, Mikal Hancox, Anthony Wilson, Sophia Wilson, Vaughn Wilson, Mason Hancox, Noah Wilson, Sicily Wilson, and Stelly Chisolm; along with a host of friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly. “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
