    Michael Buchko

    March 25, 2021

Michael Buchko, 95, of Springfield, VA, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021 surrounded by family. Elaine Simkovic, his beloved wife of 60 years, preceded him in death, as well as brothers George and John, and niece Deborah Ann Davenport. He is survived by; his much-loved children Michael Buchko Jr (Douglas Loy), Melanie Krynitsky (Alexander Krynitsky), and Mark Buchko (Jennifer Adair); adored grandfather of Dr. Michael Buchko III (Dr. Heather Burke), Jonathan Krynitsky (Lara Magill), Stephanie Krynitsky, Emma Buchko, and Timothy Buchko; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Born in 1925 in Ralphton, PA, the middle son of three, he grew up in Shenandoah, PA. After high school graduation in 1944, he started working for the Air Force. A few years later, he followed the agency to St. Louis, MO, and, at the beginning of the Korean War, to the Washington, DC, area. Retiring in 1977, he served 33 years with the US Public Health Service Information Technology Service, specializing in IBM computer products. From his home in Springfield, VA, and farm in Warrenton, VA, Michael enjoyed farming and gardening, home improvement projects, working on his cars and tractors, gatherings of family and friends, camping, taking cruises, attending art auctions, and theater performances. The Funeral Service for Michael will be held on Thursday, April 1st, at 10:00 am at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Potomac, MD. Due to COVID-19, the service is limited to family only. A private interment service will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA, on Friday, April 2, 2021, at 10:30 am held by Sts Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Windber PA, which was the same church where Michael & Elaine were married in 1957. The family asks that all donations be sent to your local church or a small food pantry in Michael Buchko's name, in lieu of flowers. Memory Eternal! Vicnaja Pamjat!
