    Melinda Yvonne Bastian

    March 11, 2022

Melinda Yvonne Bastian passed away on March 11, 2022, in the Manassas home of her parents, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 1, 1991, to Kevin and Deborah Roderick in Fairfax, Virginia. She lived in the Northern Virginia area for most of her life.  She attended and graduated from Osbourn Park High School, where she was known for her contagious smile and beautiful singing voice. Shortly after graduation, Melinda headed west to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History. During her sophomore year of college, Melinda met Marcus Derrill Bastian and was married a year later on June 29, 2011, in the Washington D.C. Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Melinda and Marc created a life of adventure, learning, service, and joy together. In their nearly 11 years of marriage, they welcomed four beautiful children into the world, Tim, Mike, Brooke, and Grace. Melinda loved her children fiercely and worked tirelessly to raise them in a loving, organized, Christ-centered home. She was one of the most faithful and compassionate people we have ever known. Despite the pain and suffering brought on by her cancer, she remained full of hope and optimism to the end. Her love for Jesus Christ and His gospel were evident in the way she graciously served those around her. Melinda constantly opened her heart and her home to others in need of help, support, friendship, and love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Melinda is survived by her husband, Marcus; children: Timothy, Michael, Brooke, and Grace; parents, Kevin and Deborah Roderick; siblings: Emily Dorius (Brian), Christina Roderick, Jordan Roderick, Jennifer Roderick, and Charlie Roderick; grandparents, Lee and Yvonne Roderick, and Wayne and Susan Rasmussen; and by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March, 19, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Woodbridge Virginia Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (3718 Old Bridge Road Woodbridge, VA 22192). There will be a viewing the night before on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home (3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA 22192). Interment to follow the funeral service on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Roselawn Memory Gardens (13389 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059).  For those unable to attend in person, you can watch virtually through the following zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/95333768572…   In lieu of flowers, Melinda asked that an education fund be set up for her four children. You can contribute via Venmo @bastianchildreneducationfund or by scanning the QR code, which is available in Melinda's page on the Miller Funeral Home website, under photos.   If you would like to share any memories, stories, or pictures of Melinda, please send them to [email protected] We will compile these into a special book to share with Melinda and Marc’s children.
