Lieselotte Thomas

Lieselotte (Lilo) Althen Thomas, 85, who resided in Dale City since 1973, died peacefully Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Greenbackville, Virginia. She was born October 18, 1934 in Lissberg, Germany to Gustav and Anna Althen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mark Howard Thomas Army Veteran of Chattanooga, TN. She is survived by her sister Hannelore Harmann and brother Peter Althen of Lissburg, Germany, her daughter Virginia Baker and husband Bill of Greenbackville, VA and son Mark Wayne Thomas and wife Stephanie of Dumfries, VA. She also leaves behind three beautiful grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Christina Thomas of Dumfries, VA; Lora Jordan and husband Michael of Ruther Glen, VA and their children Devin, Daisha, MJ and Joshua; Brian Clausson and wife Janene of Spotsylvania, VA and their daughter Shannon. Lilo is reunited in heaven with her first granddaughter, Stefanie Renee. She so dearly loved her German heritage and family, most especially her niece Silke Vonhof, husband Stephan and their children Sofia and Marie of Lissberg; nephew Jochen Harmann, wife Nicole and their children Max, Paul and Hanne of Leisenwald; and brother-in-law Manfred Harmann of Lissberg. Lilo was a loving military wife and mother. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family, traveling and visits back home to her family in Germany. Although a little “bossy” at times she had a heart of gold and was loved my many. She lived her life fearlessly and to the fullest extent - there was absolutely nothing she would not try at least twice. Rest in peace sweet lady you will be missed. The viewing will be held September 3, 2020 from the hours of 2:00-4:00 p.m., and 6:00-8:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home. The funeral service is September 4, at 12:00 p.m. at The Miller Funeral Home located at 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Masks are required. The burial will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on September 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the VFW Post 1503 located at 14631 Minnieville Road, Dale City, VA 22193 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lilo and her husband Mark were lifetime members of the VFW, and we are honored that they are hosting the reception during these difficult times.
