Joseph M. Brazil passed away at his home in Dumfries, VA on August 13, 2019 with his wife, children, and their families at his bedside. He was born 1942, in Providence, Rhode Island. He enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959, at age 17, and completed his enlistment in April 1962. Joseph worked as a machine operator at Gambar Products for two years. He reenlisted in the Army in February 1965 and four months later was shipped to Vietnam with the 41st Signal Battalion. He spent two years in Vietnam during his first tour and an additional year in 1969. Joseph retired from the Army in 1982, and later attended Prince William Community College. He spent one year with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1983. Joseph joined the Department of Energy (DOE) in Washington, DC in 1984 and retired in 2006, after 22 years. He had been a resident of Prince William County, Virginia since 1975. Joseph was the son of the late Ruth Rushworth (Munroe), Raymond Brazil, and James Rushworth (step Dad). He was preceded in death by his brother John Brazil. Mr. Brazil is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Eladia, his children, daughter, Elena O'Donnell (Dan), son Joseph (Monica), brothers, Raymond Brazil, Douglas Rushworth, and sister Ruth Rushworth and granddaughters Alexa, Maddie, Kayla and Gabbie, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 2-4PM with a service at 4PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity or church of your choosing in memory of Joseph.
