Timothy McClain

Timothy McClain was born in Falcon, MS to the late Columbus McClain and Ada Maude Hemphill McClain. He was the second born and oldest son of 14 siblings. He left Mississippi at an early age and moved to Chicago, IL where he became a fan of the Chicago White Sox baseball team and the Chicago Bears NFL team. He grew up playing baseball and often talked about what a great baseball player he had been. In 1950 Timothy moved to Chicago, IL, where he enlisted in the US Army. His military career spanned 21 years. He was stationed at many military installations in the U.S., Germany and Korea. His last duty station was Fort Belvoir, VA where he retired in 1974. During his military service, he received the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Metal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Timothy was known by family and friends in Mississippi and Chicago as “Buddy man”, but his friends in the military, DC/MD/VA community, and his Ebenezer family knew him as “Mack” or “Trustee Mack.” After military retirement, Mack continued in the workforce in Washington, DC where he worked an additional 20 years as an Accident Investigator for DC Public Schools Transportation System. Mack was a resident of Triangle, VA where he was well known and loved in the Community. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church (EBC) as for over 50 years, serving faithfully as a Trustee, Kitchen Ministry Coordinator, overseer of EBC cemetery and EBC historical site. He enjoyed Sunday worship, outreach projects and fellowship with other churches in the area. In his most senior years, he stepped down from day-to-day service, but he continued to help wherever he could. His time was filled with helping and serving in the church and the community by delivering food and taking others to doctor’s appointments throughout the area including to the VA clinic in Richmond, VA. Mack enjoyed weekly Tuesday gatherings with friends to play “Bid Whist.” He organized a weekly Thursday morning breakfast group at Cracker Barrell where he always looked forward to gathering with men whom he had been friends with for many years. Mack was preceded in death by his wife Velva Jean McClain and his daughter, Loyce McClain Cannick.
