Celebrating the Life of Samuelle (Sam) Alfredo Bowen January 14, 2003 – March 4, 2024 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Samuelle (Sam) Alfredo Bowen on March 4, 2024. Sam was born on January 14, 2003 in Woodbridge, Virginia to Marietta and Derrick Bowen. He grew up in Woodbridge, and graduated from Bishop Ireton High School, in Arlington, Virgina. He continued his education as a business major at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. Those who knew Sam best recognized that while Sam was strong, he was also gentle. Many people referred to him as a “gentle giant with an old soul.” Detailed-oriented and intelligent beyond his years, Sam was also exceptionally caring and thoughtful of others; if he could, Sam would carry the world’s burdens on his shoulders. While Sam could be reserved and enjoyed his “alone time,” he could also be charismatic and full of joyful energy. He loved playing sports, and demonstrated a special talent and fondness for football that started on the flag football gridiron when he was only four years old. Sam’s love of the game continued throughout high school and during his time at Jackson State University. Samuelle is survived by his parents, Derrick and Marietta Bowen; his older brother Roemeo Bowen; his older sister, Shanelle Blount; his brother-in-law, Johnnie Blount; his nieces, Olivia and Ava Blount; both grandmothers; Norma Bowen and Mary Burger, several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends. Sam was predeceased by his favorite person, Roberto Bowen (who was fondly known as Uncle Bo); his aunt, Natalie Nicole Bowen; his grandfathers, Alfred E. Bowen, Robert Lee Fortune, and Harry Burger; his great grandparents, Cyril and Edna Duncan; and his best friend Bishop. Goodbyes hurt the most when the story wasn’t finished. Although he is gone too soon, Sam’s memory will remain in the hearts of the many people who loved and adored him. While he will be missed by many, we should all be grateful for the time, laughter, and love that we’ve shared with him. Please join us in celebrating his life.
