Ricardo Nery Fulgencio

Ricardo Nery Fulgencio, 87, from Woodbridge, Virginia, died peacefully on August 25, 2023, at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center with his family nearby. Ricardo was born on July 27,1936 in Paranaque, Philippines where he met the love of his life, Victoria Delos Reyes and married in Oklahoma on May 21,1965. Ricardo joined the United States Navy, May 1959 and honorably served in the United States Navy and subsequently fought in the Vietnam War. Ricardo was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee where his eldest daughter, Christine, was born; Newport, Rhode Island where his son and middle child, Ricardo, Jr., was born; and Long Beach, California, where he had his youngest daughter, Cindy. Ricardo traveled the world courtesy of the Navy and enjoyed seeing many different countries and cultures although he missed his family. After retiring from the Navy, Ricardo worked at the then-Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia and later a Sgt. as a Special Police Officer for the Smithsonian Institution, where he was well-loved by his co-workers. Ricardo lived in the Dale City community for over 50 years and was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Ricardo is known for his sense of humor and his love for his family and many relatives. At family gatherings, he was the life of the party, and raised everyone’s spirits with his laughter. He laughingly referred to himself as “the Chicken Man,” complete with t-shirt, because of his fondness for eating all things chicken. Ricardo also loved to fish, talk about the fish he caught, read about history, and watch history shows. Ricardo was preceded in death by Marcos Fulgencio, father and Biviana Fulgencio, mother, and two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Victoria Fulgencio, and three loving, caring children, Christine Fulgencio and spouse Kevin Miller, and Ricardo Fulgencio Jr. and spouse Jane Scruggs and one grandson, Julian Fulgencio and Cindy Lasso and spouse Ricardo Lasso. The family will have a viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., August 30, 2023, at Miller Funeral Home located at 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA 22192, with Service to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery.
