Phillip Eugene Davis

Phillip E. Davis, 68, of Dumfries, Virginia passed away June 14, 2026. Phillip Eugene Davis was born on August 3, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Richard H. and Betty L. Davis. He was affectionately known as "Flipflop" by his family and friends. Phillip was the second of four children and was preceded in death by his older brother, Richard H. "Dickie" Davis, Jr. On June 14, 2026, Phillip entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Phillip was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Truman High School in 1975. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, attending Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, California. He honorably served his country for 20 years. During his military career, Phillip was stationed in California, Okinawa, Japan, Cuba, and Washington, D.C., and completed several deployments aboard naval ships. His attention to detail was second to none, and he was entrusted with coordinating honors for military balls and funeral details in both California and Washington, D.C. While stationed in Washington, D.C., Phillip met the love of his life, Luemma "Tiny" Davis, a soldier in the United States Army. Together, they truly "joined forces," building a strong, loving marriage that lasted more than 32 years until his passing. Throughout his Marine Corps career, Phillip developed exceptional baking skills and became well known for creating elaborate cakes for Marine Corps Birthday celebrations and other special occasions. He also delighted family and friends by baking themed cakes for birthdays, baby showers, military promotions, and office potlucks. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Phillip proudly served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, continuing his lifelong commitment to serving others. Retirement allowed Phillip and Luemma to enjoy life together. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, with Las Vegas, Nevada, remaining one of his favorite vacation destinations. Phillip never met a stranger. He possessed a warm spirit, a generous heart, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He would gladly give his last dollar or the shirt off his back to someone in need. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, Phillip also collected baseball cards for more than 40 years. He enjoyed an ice-cold Miller Lite, playing cards, golfing, listening to music, and spending time outdoors, especially birdwatching. He cherished introducing his grandsons—Robbie, Remy, and Rico—to baseball, fishing, hiking, and nature walks, creating memories they will treasure forever. Phillip leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 32 years, Luemma Davis; his beloved dog, Polly; his sons, Phillip Davis, Jr. and John of Kansas City, Missouri; his stepson, Robert of Denver, Colorado; his sisters, Elizabeth Davis Hightower (Jeff) and Debby Davis Shores (Donnie), both of Kansas City, Missouri; his grandsons Robert Jr., Remy, Rico and Nacia; and his great-grandson, Remy Jr. He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Joe N. Jones (Alice) of Florida, Arlena L. Chaney of Washington, D.C., Claudette E. Jones of Washington, D.C., Willie F. Jones of Dumfries, Virginia, and Janice C. Jones of Silver Spring, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law George H. Jones, Milton Jones, Paul L. Jones, and Delray Jones. Phillip also leaves behind a beloved Uncle Frank, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. Like every fallen Marine, Phillip embodied the motto, "Gone, but not forgotten." His love for his family, his friends, and the United States Marine Corps, along with his infectious sense of humor and generous spirit, will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Semper Fidelis.
