Mark Edward Broadus

Mark Edward Broadus peacefully departed this life on May 1, 2026, at Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center after a long battle with complications related to Type 1 Diabetes. He was 72 years old. Mark was born on March 6, 1954, in Lignum and grew up in Washington, where he attended DC Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his mother, Willard Broadus Tinsley; his stepfather, Forrest Tinsley; and his sister, Jean Thomas. Mark leaves to cherish his memory his loving son, Sean (Valerie) Broadus; his beloved granddaughters, Tamara Boggs and Vashaun Broadus; his nephew, Malcolm Jamal Thomas; his great-nieces, Destiny Thomas and Serena; along with many cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and conversation. Mark was known for his jovial spirit, thoughtful nature, and love of deep philosophical and spiritual discussions. He enjoyed encouraging others and sharing his insights both through conversation and through writing. A self-described motivational speaker, one of his proudest accomplishments was fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a published author. In 2012, he published two booklets of self-improvement writings and short stories titled The Journey…to Finding One’s True Self and The Spiritual Door. Mark also demonstrated tremendous love and devotion to his family. When his aging parents required additional care, he moved in with them while continuing his employment with the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department. He faithfully balanced work with caregiving responsibilities, ensuring his parents were transported to doctor appointments, pharmacies, and grocery stores. During his mother’s declining health, Mark showed extraordinary compassion and dedication in caring for her and making her as comfortable as possible. Above all, Mark treasured spending time with his granddaughters and creating memories with family. Though his own health declined in later years, those who knew him will always remember his easy-going personality, warm smile, and ability to inspire others through heartfelt conversation. Mark was known as a neat dresser, but his finest attire was always his welcoming smile. For the past seven years, Mark resided at Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, where he continued to share his thoughts, encouragement, and faith with those around him. One of Mark’s favorite reflections from his book The Journey…to Finding One’s True Self reads: “Life is a circle; the external life reflects the internal or the infinite. Today my intelligence is hope. Tomorrow it is my savior. The purpose of my inner life is to be constantly evolving to reach its highest state and to know and to be with God.” — Page 8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV) May his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A memorial service celebrating Mark’s life will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 11am-12pm at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd. Woodbridge, VA 22192
