Lydia Maria Ferran

Lydia Maria Ferran passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, with her family lovingly by her side. Lydia was born in Havana, Cuba on February 17, 1926 to Pedro and Maria Chomat. She immigrated to the United States in December 1960 with her late husband Carlos, 5-year-old daughter Lydia Maria and 3-year-old son Carlos Jose. They eventually settled in Woodbridge, Virginia where Lydia and her husband established and co-owned Caly Builders, Inc., joined a local church, and became a vital part of the Woodbridge business community, including membership in the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. After arriving in Virginia, Lydia and Carlos were blessed by the births of two daughters —Virginia Theresa and Gloria Ana. They built a beautiful home on the shores of the Potomac River that allowed them to enjoy the boating, skiing and fishing that were part of their life in Cuba. The family has enjoyed belonging to the Bayside community for the past 50 years. Lydia loved her role as a wife and mother. In addition to her four children, she treasured the love and frequent visits of her 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. A widow for 32 years, Lydia cared for (and was cared for by) her children, including sharing a home with her daughter Gloria’s family for many years. Over the past decade, her dog Sammie was her constant companion and friend. Lydia was an amazing cook for her family. Hobbies included knitting, gardening, and travelling well into her 80’s. Lydia is survived by her children: Lydia Weeks and husband Bob of Staunton, VA, Carlos Ferran and wife Carrie of Stafford, VA, Virginia Atwood and husband Mike of Holly Springs, NC, and Gloria Cassady and husband David of Woodbridge, VA. Lydia is also survived by grandchildren Robert Weeks (wife Ashley), Joseph Ferran (wife Jackie), Lydia Basham (husband Justin), Emilie Ferran (husband Andrew Esprella), Caly Bruton (husband Daniel), David Cassady (wife Quinn), Marisa Cheek (husband Will), Liz Ward (husband Matt), Rebeca Cassady, Joel Cassady, Michael Atwood and Maria Atwood; and her 22 great-grandchildren. A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 4-6:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 15880 Crest Dr., Woodbridge, VA. Lydia’s son-in-law, Pastor Bob Weeks, will officiate. Interment will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, VA.
