James "Jim" Womer

James "Jim" Womer went home to Jesus on July 16, 2022 at age 77. Jim was born to Geraldine Mae Womer and William Paul Womer on November 14, 1944 in Lewisburg, PA. As a child, he lived in Middleburg, PA. Jim was valedictorian of his graduating Middleburg high school class in 1962. He attended Lehigh University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, graduating magna cum laude. While also at Lehigh University, he was a National Science Foundation fellow for his Master’s degree and earned his Ph.D in electrical engineering. Jim was a dedicated and loving husband. Jim met his wife Janice in 1966 at the Allentown Fair. They married July 10, 1971. Jim was excited to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary this year. Jim and Janice moved to Woodbridge, VA in 1973. In Woodbridge, they started and raised their family. Jim and Janice had two children, James Jr. and Deborah. Jim was an amazing father and a wonderful grandfather, always present in their lives. Jim also loved his church, Bethel United Methodist Church. He served there in many ways over the years. In recent years, he loved ringing in Bethel’s bell choir and enjoyed many special and significant friendships with the people of Bethel UMC. Jim was also one of the founders of National Capital Area Emmaus and enjoyed serving many years and making many important friendships with people in the Emmaus community. If he wasn’t in Woodbridge, he wanted to be in Davis, WV. Davis, WV was one of Jim’s favorite places on earth and was a place he and his family spent a lot of time over the years. There, Jim enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and the kindness of the people. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. Even in his final days his faith in Jesus Christ did not waiver and was a living testimony to those around him including the hospital staff. Jim would tell them "I know who my Savior is". Jim joins his parents, grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Janice of 51 years, son James David Womer, Jr. (Sarah), daughter Deborah Ann Lumber (Timothy), grandchildren, James David Womer III, Luke Allen Womer, Samuel Henry Womer, and many cousins. Although we miss him very much we know he has been completely healed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we will be reunited with him again. One of Jim’s favorite Bible verses was Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” The family will receive friends on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 4-7:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. A memorial service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Woodbridge, VA on August 2 at 11:00 am. There will be a live stream available. A private interment will be held in Davis, WV prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or Capital Caring Health (hospice).
