Jacob Clyde Shipley

Jacob Clyde Shipley of Woodbridge, VA reunited with his mom, DeLana Hodson Shipley, in Heaven on August 19, 2023, at the age of 45. He is survived by his wife Sarah, stepdaughter Larkyn, dad and stepmom John and Eileen Shipley, brother and sister in-law Bill and Stacy Ritchhart, sister and brother-in-law VeLera and Gary Richey, in-laws Dan and Sharon Lerche, Chris and Lauren Lerche, seven nieces and nephews, JoLee, Jessi, DeLana, Beau, Brendan, Corinne, and Carter, countless friends he considered family, and his beloved dog, Tippy. Jake grew up in Kansas and loved baseball as a kid, even playing at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. His summers were spent traveling and camping at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also attended the University of Kansas and never lost his love for their sports. He proceeded to live in many places, spending nearly 20 meaningful years in Lawrence, KS and eventually settling in Woodbridge, VA. Jake was a skilled craftsman, co-owning a fence business in Kansas and later starting his own company in Woodbridge, VA, Shipley Fence LLC. His customer base appreciated his integrity and commitment to excellence, and he was voted ‘2023 Neighborhood Favorite’ by his community. Jake was passionate about cooking of all types, showing love to others through his recipes. He enjoyed the finer things in life including craft beer, fine wine, a great cigar, quality watches, and recently discovered a love for playing the guitar. He also loved traveling, visiting both coasts with many stops in between. Jake cherished his wife, stepdaughter, family, and his many friends. Jake was intensely proud of his nieces and nephews and was the fun uncle everyone wanted to hang with. He made lifelong friends everywhere he went and cultivated a deep connection with them all. His loving relationship with Sarah was seen and felt by all and many commented they still acted like newlyweds. His kind and sensitive heart will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In memory of Jake, you can donate to the V Foundation; www.v.org , which was near and dear to Jake’s heart.
