Gerard André Piller

Gerard André Piller was born in El Dorado Arkansas on April 1, 1961, to parents Charles and Faye Piller. He moved to St. Louis Missouri with his parents who were searching for better jobs. While his mother taught elementary school, his father worked for the Department of Defense as a Cartographer. Gerard grew up in the Hazelwood School District and played in the band. He was active in the YMCA Indian Guides and the Boy Scouts of America, hiking and camping across the US, including two trips to a mountain called Philmont. After graduating from Hazelwood East High School in 1979, he attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. After hearing about Grambling University and its marching band, he tried out and got a position with the Grambling Marching Tigers. The band was well known and traveled around the US with the football team. His most enjoyable trip was when he traveled with the band for two weeks in Japan to film a Coca-Cola commercial. He graduated from Grambling University to receive a major in Art and a minor in Journalism. After graduating from Grambling, he worked as an art teacher at New City School in St. Louis, Missouri. He decided he did not want to continue teaching. He came home from work and announced that he was going to join the Army. He was successful and remained in service for three years. He enjoyed traveling in the military to places like France and Spain, but didn’t want to make a career out of it. He interviewed for a job with the Department of Defense in Washington DC and he was hired by the Defense Mapping Agency, the same place his Father worked. He worked for the government for over 25 years until he became ill. Gerard made many friends and coworkers who remember him as a kind and professional person who was a friend to all and a likable coworker. Gerard loved all things, Marvel Universe, really anything comic book related. He had quite a collection of books and collectible items. He loved to watch movies and enjoyed discussing his favorite and least favorite parts from an artistic point of view. He was baptized on December 19, 2021, being added to the North Virginia Church of Christ. Gerard was preceded in death by his Mother Faye Piller. He was survived by his father Charles Piller, sisters Nichelle Young, (Levi) and Cheryl Faminu (Charles), nieces Orion and Alevia Young, Nephews Sean and Joshua Faminu, Aunt Mary McKeel, Uncle Thomas Piller, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. The family will receive visitors Friday, January 16, 2026 from 11:30am-12pm with a service at noon at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery 2pm.
