Edwin Wayne Martin

Edwin Wayne Martin, a proud veteran and decorated Green Beret Captain, passed away at the age of 86 on December 31, 2023, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 21, 1937, in Enterprise, Alabama, Edwin lived a life of adventure, love, and service. After entering the military in 1954, Edwin served his country with honor and distinction, touring in Germany and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication. Edwin’s family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his children, Sharon Martin, Raymond Martin, and Sherry Martin who will miss his loving spirit and gentle wisdom. He will be deeply missed by his four grandchildren, Janine Parker, David Heerick Jr, Jack & Hailey . Great grand children, Nicholas McPherson Jr., Mariah Washington-Heerick, Easton Washington-Heerick, Roman Parker (Jensen) and Landon Heerick will cherish memories of their grandfather's warmth and adventurous spirit. Edwin's love for life was contagious. He shared his passions with his family, teaching Sharon how to waterski at Lake Anna on his boat and building a swing set and red wagon to take Janine, his granddaughter everywhere with him. He really cherished his time in Burke ,VA teaching his grandkids how to rollerblade and ride a bike. Edwin's love for life only grew stronger with age. His passions included riding his motorcycle, rollerblading in South Beach, Miami, camping out under the stars and traveling in his camper . His heart was also filled with love for his beloved chihuahua, Cocoa. Edwin's mother Wilma, father Edwin & siblings predeceased him, but his legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched. His memory will be a blessing to all who knew him. Rest in peace, Edwin Wayne Martin. Your sacrifice, love and adventurous spirit will never be forgotten. "As we say goodbye to you, know that our hearts will forever hold a piece of yours.
