Curly Michael Ferguson

CURLY MICHAEL FERGUSON, born March 18, 1949, departed this life on September 27, 2022, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC, after a brief illness at the age of 73. Michael was born in Princeton, WV, to the late Dennis and Virginia Ferguson in a loving and spiritual home. He was baptized at an early age and loved the Lord. He was educated in the Princeton public school system. Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966. During his six-year tenure, he served in Vietnam and was stationed aboard the USS Vermillion. He married Thelma Newbill, his “one and only wife;” and they resided in Washington, DC and Woodbridge, VA, with their two sons, Michael and Kenric until 1990. Michael worked at the Library of Congress and Lorton Facilities within the Department of Corrections. He relocated to New Jersey and Greensboro, NC where he held various occupations. Prior to his retirement in 2017, Michael was a bus operator for several bus transportation companies and the City of Greensboro. Michael was of a lover of many things: traveling, good ole’ home cooked food, jazz, blues, and old school R&B music; his flower garden, casinos, cars, sports, and of course the senior ladies in his Stone Bridge Retirement complex…but most of all he loved his sons, Michael and Kenric, his grands and family. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand and to make you laugh. He was known by many names such as Ferg, Big Sexy, Mike, and Curly Mike. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Virginia Mae Ferguson Hines; Father Dennis S. Ferguson; his brother Eugene Ferguson; and his sister Inez (Sam) Banks. Michael leaves to cherish his memory, his sons Michael (Lisa) of Fredericksburg, VA and Kenric of Woodbridge, VA; one brother, Robert Ferguson (Margaret) of Princeton, WV; three sisters, Patricia Phillips of St. Augustine, FL; Dianne Ferrell and Linda Powers (Darryl) of Cleveland, OH; ex-wife and best friend, Thelma Ferguson of Woodbridge, VA; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friends, and friends. Rest in peace with the Lord, Michael Due to COVID restrictions, family requests plants instead of flowers. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook Live.
