Col. David Hamilton Shelley

Col. David Hamilton Shelley, 68, of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on February 2, 2025 peacefully at home. He was born April 20, 1956 in Paris, France, and later raised in Vienna, Virginia where he attended James Madison High School. Col. Shelley attended the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity where he served as chapter president for two years in his tenure. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee, he received his Commission as a second Lieutenant in the United States Army. While active duty, Col. Shelley earned an MBA from the University of Maryland, a Masters in International Relations, and attended Harvard War College. Col. Shelley was a retired Special Operations and infantry officer and retired holding the rank of Colonel in the United States Army and retired after serving our country for 24 years. Upon retiring from the United States Army, he continued to serve our country working for the Department of Defense for 21 years. He was a true patriot and hero to this country. He was a voracious reader, with an excellent grasp of history and a strong sense of duty. Col. David H. Shelley was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Flanagan Shelley, father, LTC. Mack Clayton Shelley, and granddaughter Madison Danielle Boore. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lynn Shelley, his son, Christopher John Clayton Shelley, of Woodbridge, Virginia; his son, Lewis Alexander Boore,VII, daughter-in-law, Alison Renee Boore, and grandchildren, Renee Mackenzie Boore, Giuliana Grace Boore, and Landon Alexander Boore, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his brother Mack Clayton Shelley, II, and sister-in-law Kathleen Diane Shelley, of Ames, Iowa; nephew William Ryan Shelley, of West Des Moines, Iowa, and niece Anne Elizabeth Shelley, of Elkhart, Iowa; and his beloved dogs Kaiser and Heidi, of Woodbridge, Virginia. Col. Shelley was a loving and selfless husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son who put God, his family, and his country before all else. Services are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 19. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a service starting at 12:00 PM. Services are located at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 3200 Golansky Blvd. Woodbridge, VA 22192. Following the service, a burial ceremony will begin at 2:00 PM, located at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172. A funeral repast will begin at 4:00 PM, at the Ashland Conservancy Clubhouse, 5550 Fincastle Dr. Manassas, VA 20112.
