Barbara Ann Nicodemus Lescalleet

Mrs. Barbara Ann Nicodemus Lescalleet, 104, last residing in Woodbridge, VA, died on January 23, 2024. She was the wife of the late Gilmore Lescalleet, Jr. Born on February 19, 1919 in Buckeystown, MD, she was the daughter of Fulton and Nina Null Nicodemus. Upon graduating from Frederick High School, Barbara furthered her education by receiving a diploma from the Temple Business School and a teaching certificate from the Washington College Of Music, both institutions located in Washington, DC. She taught piano students at the late Sperry L. Storm studio and was employed at various times as a secretary at the Home Office of Peoples Life Insurance Company, Washington, DC. She was a devoted wife and loving mother whose first priority in her adult life was her family. Her entire adult life was spent caring for them. One of her dreams was that her three children would acquire college educations, and she proudly saw this dream fulfilled. One of her legacies will be her handiwork with cross-stitch. She did many of these projects with arthritic hands. She was admired for her delightful talent for cooking and baking. She loved classical music and enjoyed playing her piano almost daily. She was a long-time member of Hughes United Methodist Church in Wheaton, MD where she started to attend during the 1950's. She was by nature a kind and gentle person, slow to criticize, and always looking for the very best in everyone and everything. She is survived by her daughter, Ann F. Lescalleet in Woodbridge, VA, and son, David G. Lescalleet and wife, Cindy Lescalleet in Troutdale, OR, and son, Brian R. Lescalleet in Silver Spring, MD., two grandchildren, Kristin Williams and Daniel Lescalleet, and great grandchild, Luka Velazco. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar Nicodemus and wife, Helen Nicodemus, her brother, Roger Nicodemus and wife, Mildred Nicodemus, and her sister, Virginia Metcalf and husband, Richard Metcalf. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 6-8pm at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. A funeral service is being held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 11am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701 with interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
