Barbara Ann "Bird" Stevens

Barbara Ann "Bird" Stevens was born on July 16, 1955, in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Lalar Mae Cook Morrison and R.C. Morrison, Sr. From the very beginning, Barbara's life was a beautiful testament to strength, determination, love, and an extraordinary will to live. Barbara attended high school in Dothan, Alabama. At just 16 years old, she gave birth to her only son, Tewon LaShawn Stevens. Motherhood became one of the greatest joys of Barbara's life, and the bond between Barbara and Tewon was especially close. She often reminded him of their special connection, saying, "It's you and me, T!" And indeed, it was. She later married Eldon Stevens, and the family made their way to Springfield, Ohio. As a teenager, Barbara was diagnosed with a serious heart condition. The following year, at age 17, she underwent open-heart surgery - an experience that could have defined her limitations but instead became one of the earliest examples of her remarkable resilience. Over the years, Barbara endured additional heart surgeries and benefited from increasingly advanced medical technology and lifesaving devices. Through it all, she remained strong, spirited, and full of life. Her son, Tewon, lovingly nicknamed her "the Bionic Bird," a fitting tribute to a woman whose heart had been through so much yet continued to give so much love. Barbara possessed an incredible work ethic throughout her life. She worked for Shoppers Food Warehouse until retiring in her 50s. Retirement, however, did not slow her down. She continued enjoying life, caring for herself, and loving the people who mattered most. Barbara believed in taking good care of herself and others. She loved skincare, natural hair care, organic foods, and healthy living. She was protective of her family and remained so until the very end. Her love was strong, her opinions were known, and those fortunate enough to know her understood that Barbara had a personality all her own. She especially treasured her son Tewon and her granddaughter, Faith Stevens. Her family was at the center of her world, and the love she poured into them will remain part of her legacy for generations to come. Barbara departed this life on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lalar Mae Cook Morrison and R.C. Morrison, Sr.; her sisters, Redean Smith and Dorothy Stanley; and her brothers, J.B. Morrison and R.C. Morrison, Jr. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Tewon LaShawn Stevens; her granddaughter, Faith Stevens; her former husband, Eldon Stevens; her sisters, Ruby Edmonds (Roy, Sr.) and Martha Morrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
