Nieves Mariano Sagudan

Nieves Mariano Sagudan, 78, of Triangle Virginia and Hesperia California, passed away peacefully at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland on June 11, 2021. Nieves was born on November 9,1942 in Datakan, Kapangan, Benguet, Philippines. She was the fifth child of loving parents, Mariano Casio and Tumdid Fianza. She went to elementary school at St. Teresita School in Labueg, Kapangan and continued high school and some college at Baguio Technology. In November 1965, Nieves Mariano married Spencer Wallac Sagudan. She owned a store in Labueg, Kapangan while Spencer joined the United States Navy and was serving in the Vietnam War. Nieves moved on to be of help to her sister Faustina’s store and restaurant in La Trinidad. She would also travel back occasionally to Datakan to help her father back home. In August 1972, Nieves with her son, Ronald, boarded a military plane to join her husband in Fort Ord, California. As a military spouse, she worked throughout their stays in military bases from Fort Ord California to Naval Station Mayport Jacksonville, Fort Monmouth New Jersey, Navy Yard Washington DC, and Marine Corp Base Quantico VA. Nieves retired from Naval Health Clinic Quantico with over twenty years of Federal Service. She received several Civilian of the Quarter Awards as well as Civilian of the Year. Nieves was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandma. She was predeceased by: her parents Mariano Casio and Tumdid Fianza , her husband Senior Chief Spencer Wallac Sagudan (USN-Retired); her siblings Faustina Fianza Casio, Sito Fianza Mariano, Alina Casio Tomas, Alona Casio Mayomis, half-brother Gaston Mariano, and step-siblings Elsie Ciano, Mario Veloso, and Agustin Veloso. She is survived by his son Ronald Sagudan and wife Analiza Gunaden Sagudan; grandchildren, Dylan and Dyanne; and sister Mary Casio Baniwas. Viewing and Prayer Service will be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM., at the Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Boulevard, Woodbridge, Virginia 22192. Arrangements are being made for her to be laid to rest with Spencer in Arlington National Cemetery.
