Jamie McClellan Fear, 53
Passed away peacefully at home on December 17th, 2011. She valiantly fought a twelve year cancer battle with grace, strength and dignity. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, her family moved to Ocala, Florida where she grew up. She graduated from the University of Florida with a marketing degree in 1980. After moving to Virginia, she worked for McGraw-Hill in the 1980's and The National Academy of Sciences in the 1990's until her illness became her total focus. Her father, H.E. "Mac" McClellan, preceded Jamie in death. Jamie is survived by her devoted husband, Don, of 23 years, her stepson Alan Fear of Pittsburgh, PA, mother Margaret McClellan of Ocala, FL, brother Dick McClellan of Richmond, VA and sisters Judith Romberg-Muir of Round Hill, VA and Joanne Chirdon of Pembroke Pines, FL. Jamie was an avid animal lover. She volunteered with Pets on Wheels, Hospice of Northern Virginia and Blue Ridge Assistance Dogs. Her beloved Labrador Fiona was always at her side. Jamie shared her husband's love of water and fishing, and together they were instrumental in developing programs for children at Leesylvania State Park in Virginia. She enjoyed and loved her family, friends, dogs, the ocean, the blues and especially her favorite singer, Etta James. Her husband, a photography teacher at Suitland High School, chronicled Jamie's fight in a collection of prints entitled Jamie's Journey.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192.
