Gerald J. "Jerry" Henri, 74


Of Dale City, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Capital Caring Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 22, 1937 in Detroit, MI.
Jerry served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps, which brought him to the Virginia area, where he met his future wife and made Virginia his home. They eventually chose the Dale City area in the early 1970’s to raise their family. Jerry retired after a 30 year career as a Union Offset Pressman. After retirement, he enjoyed almost 5 years as a Prince William County bus driver for special needs children. He also enjoyed NASCAR and spent many years traveling to races in Daytona Beach, FL, Michigan and Richmond, VA with family and friends. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed cooking and canning fruits and vegetables from his garden. His kitchen was stocked with every imaginable cooking tool which he used when cooking for family gatherings. Jerry was also a bowler for many years where he made lifelong friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Liz), son Steve (Susan) Henri of Lake Ridge, VA, daughter Pam (Steve) Rock of Dale City, VA; his loving brother John (Lori) Moore of Chesterfield Township, MI; his sisters Lynette (Don) Mikity, Elyse Henri, Mylene Henri and brother Robert (Joanie) Henri; grandchildren Samantha Maley, SPC Jeffrey Helton, Jr., Samantha Henri, Lauren and Brittany Rock; great-grandchildren Sophia and Caiden as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 11th, 2012 from 6-9 PM and Thursday July 12th, 2012 from 9-10 AM, with service following at 10:30 AM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment immediately following the service at Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: Capital Caring Hospice, Resource Development Department, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.
