Donald Edward Kent, 88
Of Dumfries, VA, passed away on
December 21, 2011, at Mary Washington
Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA. Major Kent retired after serving 30 years in the
United States Marine Corps. He was awarded numerous medals for action in WWII,
Korea and Vietnam including the Bronze Star with Combat "V", Purple Heart, and
numerous other Medals, Citations and Commendations.
Major Kent was severely wounded during combat in Korea and was one of the first people ever medically evacuated by helicopter. After spending a year recovering in the hospital, he was able to continue on active duty until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rhea Jean Kent (Dalrymple). He is survived by son, Donald Edward Kent II and wife Kelly; daughters, Pamala Hodge and husband Mike, and Deena Raby and husband Butch; grandchildren, Debbie Jones, Major Michael Scott Raby, USAF Ret., Kristin Kent, Shannon Kent, Erin Kent, Beth Hodge; great grandchildren, David, Makayla, Ashlynne, Jaidyn, Myles; great great grandchild, Bram.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
