Obituary for Clifford Dalton Jones
Age 89, of Stafford Virginia, died May 9, 2010 after battling Alzheimer's disease for several years. He is survived by Frances, 89, his devoted wife whom was his primary care provider until recent months. He is also survives by his sister, Nancy Williams, his two daughters, Susanne Leon and Elaine Claggett and six grandchildren, Valerie, Audrey, Bill, Alison, Clifford and Russell. His son, Donald, predeceased him. Mr. Jones was born in Yeagertown PA. His family moved shortly thereafter to the Washington D.C. area. He was a choir member of the St. MArk's Episcopal Church for many years. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1939. He was a First Lieutenant is the Army Air Corps 96th Bomb group, 339th Squadron, serving as a B-17 navigator during World War II. During an operation in May 1944, he was shot down over Germany and captured where he remained as a prisoner of war until April 1945. Following his service, he completed his Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Benjamin Franklin University. He worked as comptroller for Corson & Gruman/Corman Construction until his retirement in 1987. He was a long standing member of Potomac Lodge No. 5, the Fraternal Order of Freemasons. The family will receive visitors and have a brief service at Miller Funeral Home, on May 14, 2010 from 7 to 10pm. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on August 10, 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
