Yong Suk Owens, 67, of Springfield, Virginia on December 13, 2017.
Yong Suk Owens was born April 9, 1950 in Pusan, South Korea. She was formally educated in the Pusan, South Korea Public School System. Yong Suk married Frederick Owens on December 6, 1977 while Frederick was serving in the United States Army stationed in South Korea. Yong Suk and Frederick moved to the United States in 1978; they celebrated their 40th year wedding anniversary on December 6, 2017.
One of her proudest and greatest moments was becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States of America in 1984. She was employed in the Federal Government system as a food service and lodging staff representative. Yong Suk was an exceptional employee, always going above and beyond her duties in an extremely thorough, knowledgeable and professional manner.
Yong Suk loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Virginia Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, VA, where she served as Deaconess and member of the choir, singing with a natural soprano voice. Yong Suk was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease in July 2013. She courageously battled this illness until she passed on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Woodbine Rehabilitation Center in Alexandria, VA.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 6-8PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge. Services will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Ft. Belvoir Chapel with interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery.
