Thomas E. Watson, Jr., 71




Thomas Earl Watson, Jr., age 71, of Lake Ridge, VA, passed away on August 14, 2017.


Tom was born on July 24, 1946, in Red Bank, NJ, the son of the late Thomas E. and Dorothy Watson.  Tom is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Valerie; son, Thomas E. Watson, III of Atlanta, GA (wife Arynne); daughters Tracey Lyons of Severn, MD (husband Erik); and Lauri Regan of Centreville, VA (husband Sean). He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Wolff of Alexandria, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.


Tom grew up in Red Bank, NJ and was a graduate of Red Bank High School and Albright College.  While at Albright College, Tom was a member of Alpha Pi Omega fraternity. Tom then began his career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a National Bank Examiner.  Three months later, in September of 1968, he began his service in the U.S Army.  During his honorable service, Tom received various awards including the Bronze Star Medal. Upon discharge he resumed his career at the OCC.  In October 2004, he retired after 35 years.


Tom was a Boy Scout as a child and renewed his involvement in September 1983 when his son joined Pack 1365 in Lake Ridge, VA.  Soon thereafter, Tom and other Scouters founded Boy Scout Troop 1369. During his involvement with Troop 1369, he served on various committees, including serving as Troop Treasurer until 2017.  He also served in various leadership roles with the National Capital Area Council and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America. He received the Vigil Honor from the Order of the Arrow, which is the highest honor bestowed upon its members; as well as the Distinguished Service Award; a national level award that has only been given to 1,000 people since 1940.  Tom attended his first National Scout Jamboree as a child in 1960 in Colorado Springs, CO and volunteered at every Jamboree from 1985-2013.  In 2003, he received The Silver Beaver Award, for Distinguished Service to Youth.
