Suzette M. Miller, 55

Suzette Marie Miller, also known as ‘Sue’, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by those she loved on May 12th, 2018 at the age of 55 after a long and courageous battle with glioblastoma multiforme (terminal brain cancer).

Born in 1963 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Sue was the daughter of Charles and Vivian Schuneman and the youngest of four children. Suzette was always full of life, always caring for others before herself, and was a very loving and giving person.

Sue met her husband Ritchie while he was in the U.S. Navy and posted to Rota, Spain.  Sue was visiting good friends and, once they met, she and Ritchie knew they were destined to be together. It wasn’t until some years later though, after Ritchie joined the Foreign Service, that they finally decided it was time to get married and began a new adventure traveling the world together. Ritchie and Sue married in 1996 at White Bear Lake in Minnesota.

Suzette was always one for adventure. After marrying Ritchie, they took assignments overseas to Dublin, Ireland – Niamey, Niger – San Jose, Costa Rica – Geneva, Switzerland – Mexico City Mexico – as well as two domestic tours of duty in the Washington, D.C. area. Whether bartering with Tuaregs in the Sahara Desert, singing Irish ballads in pubs, traveling to exotic beaches in Costa Rica, traveling in Switzerland and other European countries, or visiting museums in Mexico City, Suzette always made the most of every opportunity. Sue also served in various positions at the U.S. Department of State (to include office manager to the U.S. Ambassador to Niamey, Niger) as well as more recently with Prince William County Schools at Lake Ridge Middle School, in Woodbridge VA.

Ritchie and Sue have a daughter, Emma who was born in July of 2005. Emma is growing into a beautiful young woman and, like her mother, is a caring and thoughtful and warm person. Sue devoted her life to her daughter and her legacy will live on forever in her heart.

Sue is survived by her husband Ritchie, age 55, her daughter Emma, age 12, and her three siblings Chuck age 67, Rhonda, age 66, and Kraig, age 59.

The family will receive friends at the Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192 on Thursday, May 24th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
