Ligaya C. DeGuzman, 61
Ligaya Cadua DeGuzman, known to close friends and family as "Ghay," passed away after a long illness on June 17, 2018, at the age of 61 years.
of the Philippines, Ligaya was born in Manila on September 10, 1956. She
attended San Sebastian College in Cavite City and graduated with a degree in
accounting in 1977.
Her first job was as a bookkeeper at Royal Savings Bank in Cavite City. After moving to the United States in 1984, she built a career as a civil servant with the U.S. government that spanned 32 years. She began as a typist in the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, then held a number of positions in payroll and accounting for the U.S. Navy. She ended her career as a financial management analyst in the Criminal Investigative Division of the U.S. Secret Service. In addition, in 2009, she established with her family Pinoy Market & Cafe in Manassas, Virginia, to share her love of Filipino food and culture with others.
Ligaya will be forever remembered by her husband of 36 years, Danilo DeGuzman Jr.; her children, Lauren (Trent) Thomas, Daniel (Cindy), and Timothy (Patricia); her mother, Soledad Cadua; and by her sisters, Erlinda (Joey) Delos Santos and Elisa (Calvin) Frazier. She will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends and colleagues. Ligaya was predeceased by her beloved father, Eliseo Cadua, and her brother Romeo Cadua.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA. A memorial service in celebration of Ligaya's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3000 Dale Blvd, Dale City, VA. Burial will follow at noon at Quantico National Cemetery.
