Jeanne M. Smith, 64
Jeanne Marie Smith of Woodbridge, Va., age 64, passed away on Dec. 23 due to complications from a brief illness. Jeanne left this world as she lived her life, on her own terms and surrounded by family – her greatest joy in life. She was born on Nov. 14, 1953 in Alexandria, Va. to the late John Beaumont and Rita (Schmidt) Beaumont. She graduated from Gar-Field High School in 1971 and worked a variety of jobs before joining the Army Night Vision Laboratory, where she met her future husband George “Digger” Smith in 1974. The two were married in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1978. Upon returning to Virginia, the two started their family and continued their 40-plus year adventure together stateside.
Jeanne enjoyed crafting, entertaining, bargain hunting, decorating (and redecorating) the family home, not cooking, doing for others, and, most of all, her family – especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City, Va.
Jeanne is survived by her husband George Smith; children Courtney Smith and Bruno Gioiello of Los Angeles, Calif., Mike Smith and daughter-in-law Tyler of Arlington, Va., Caitlin Oblaender and son-in-law Daniel of Ludwigsburg, Germany, Kelly Schwartz and son-in-law Adam of Arlington, Va., and Kathleen Smith of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren – Parker and George Smith, Hudson and Ryder Schwartz, and Emma Oblaender; her mother Rita Hill; four sisters – Linda, Rita, Theresa, and Leslie and their respective families; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Dec. 30 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church with a private inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Capital Caring.
