James D. Foos, 69
James (Jim) Foos died on November 11, 2017 in Woodbridge, VA at the age of 69.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean Foos; his three sons and their spouses, Dan and Sarah Foos, Alex and Kate Foos, and Andrew and Marsha Foos, and fifteen grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Jim was born in Rochester, NY to Charles and Margaret Foos and grew up in Los Angeles, CA. He attended Loyola Catholic High School, Santa Clara University (B.A. in Political Science), the University of Detroit (M.A. in Philosophy), and The George Washington University (M.S. in Administration, Procurement and Contracting). He spent a long career in government contracts and enjoyed teaching training classes for many years. He proudly spent 29 days in Air Force Officer Training before being released for allergies. (Their mistake.)
Jim was a strong believer in the program of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed being a Scout adult leader, completed Woodbadge training in 1988, and served as a leader again when his grandsons became Scouts. He was proud to have been a Boy Scout and even prouder that his three sons and two grandsons earned the rank of Eagle. He was looking forward to seeing more Eagle Scouts in the family in coming years.
Jim could never pass up an opportunity to tell people about his family. It seems likely that every nurse at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and all the physical therapists and nurses at Westminster in Lake Ridge now knows at least one family “secret”. Jim had an engaging personality and made many new friends during the course of his medical treatments. He strove to learn something new each day and to teach someone something new each day. He enjoyed politics and never passed up an opportunity to engage in debate. If you were not careful, he could find a way to get you to argue against your own position.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, November
