Daniel A. Augustine, 65
Daniel Andrew Augustine died at home on January 27, 2018. He was 65.
Dan was born on May 16, 1952, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. After graduating from Western Connecticut State University, he joined the U.S. Army. He spent the next 24 years of his life as an Army Officer serving in more than 20 countries around the globe, including Greece, Germany, and Panama. He served in Operation Desert Storm and earned two graduate degrees: one in business management from Troy University and one in national security and strategic affairs from the Naval War College. He retired in 1997 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has since lived in Manassas, Virginia, and held a variety of roles in the defense industry.
Dan loved cruising Virginia’s highways on his motorcycle and organizing competitions for local youth marching bands with the Mid Atlantic Art Network for Youth (MANY). For the last several years, he was a co-owner (with his son Charles and daughter-in-law Lauren) of Crossfit Unbowed in Woodbridge, Virginia, where he was an active member and fitness enthusiast. He was a Christian and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The oldest of six children, he is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Julie Augustine, and one brother, Barry Augustine. Survivors include his devoted wife of 46 years, Cecilia (Weiner) Augustine; four siblings, Carla Sugrue (John) of Stratford, CT, Jeff Augustine (Helene) of Cheshire, CT, Glenn Augustine of Milford, CT, and Gary Augustine of West Haven, CT; three children, Daniel Augustine II (Megan) of Conway, AR, Rachel Augustine Potter (Philip) of Charlottesville, VA, and Charles Augustine (Lauren) of Woodbridge, VA; and five grandchildren: Talia, Makenna, Hazel, Kannon, and Dorothy.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 1 at 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA. A memorial will be held on Friday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 12700 Black Forest Ln, Woodbridge, VA, at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2.
